Smudgley
Kennels was established in 1998, in name only, after my very
first PBGV, Canadian American Champion Dandor’s Lady
of the Fountain, aka Smudge, went Best of Breed in the 1997
Canadian National Specialty under a German judge.(as
seen here to the right)
I
predicated my future in breeding PBGVs on Smudge because how
could I do better than Number One???
After
many miles and much money invested in canine reproductive
specialists, with a broken heart I had her spayed. She had
a defective uterus and was unable to carry pups, but she remains
my number one and at eleven years old teaches the young upstarts
manners as an auntie should. In the breeding department I
was back to square one.

In
2003 Chaparral’s Madly Whimsical, aka Whimsy, came
into my life and it has never been the same! She got her
Canadian championship and is three points away from her
American. Her breeder, my friend and mentor, Susan Buttivant
of Chaparral Kennels, helped me choose her partner “Rex”,
a handsome devil and Canadian champion in his own right.
Whimsy
produced her first gorgeous litter last year – four
males and “Flirt” whom I kept to incorporate
into my breeding program in the future as she is very correct
and a real scamp. I went back to the same breeding this
year and she had five pups again – three females and
two males. They’re just like the first batch…
perfect in every way in my eyes and full of themselves.
Whimsy
will have a hiatus from breeding and return to her former
puppy-like, playful self now that her maternal duties are
over.
